Kazakhstan. A Global Leader in Nuclear Responsibility
President Nursultan NazarbayevThe threat of nuclear insecurity keeps the world on the edge of catastrophe. Waging peace takes courage, vision and an unwavering commitment to nuclear responsibility. Twenty years ago upon its Independence, Kazakhstan, under the leadership of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, renounced their nuclear weapons arsenal, the world's fourth largest. Semipalantinsk – the second largest nuclear weapons testing site in the world and a place of untold human tragedy – was shut down. Kazakhstan's leadership has proven they have the courage, shown they have the vision, and lived through their actions, their steadfast commitment to developing a nuclear safe world.
